LAHORE : The Lahore Museum on Saturday organised a talk on the ‘Restoration of Poonch House’ on completion of the restoration process of the historical Poonch House held by the Department of Industries, Commerce, Investment and Skills development under the leadership of Secretary Ehsan Bhutta.
The speakers include Ehsan Bhutta (Secretary Small Industries), M Hassan (Director, Directorate General of Archaeology Punjab) and Malik Maqsood Ahmed (Ex Director Archaeology, Punjab). Maqsood shared some facts about the history of Poonch House, whose architectural design is a blend of the British and local architecture.
He said till 2023, not enough attention was paid to the restoration of the Poonch House building. The restoration process of the Poonch House that is a part of the capacity building initiative by Directorate of Industries is a commendable step, he said. Maqsood shared insights about building material used in the restoration process including bricks, limestone, marble, wood, etc. He proposed the creation of a gallery on the name of Bhagat Singh inside the restored house. Ehsan Bhutta shared the information about the conservation process and gave details about the various steps involved in the painstaking procedure of rehabilitation of the said building. He also shared the three tiered approach involved the overall process including motivation, hard work and checks and balances. The Punjab government and the Department of Small Industries did a great job in reviving of history through the rehabilitation of this historical monument, said Ehsan Bhutta.
