LAHORE:A suspected shooter was killed in an encounter with police in Defence C here on Monday. The suspect was involved in the murder of a policeman. A Defence C OCU team was escorting suspect Waseem Ahmad for identification purpose. In the midway, they were intercepted by his accomplices. In an exchange of fire, suspect Waseem received bullet injuries. He was shifted to a nearby hospital but could not survive. The suspect a few days ago had killed a Dolphin Squad official, Adnan, and injured another official.
76 suspected outlaws arrested
Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) checked 446,167 persons and 329,283 vehicles through E-Police Posts during the past week.
During these checks, 76 wanted criminals/court absconders were apprehended, and 36 stolen vehicles/motorcycles were recovered. Under the Road Safety Campaign, 56,203 e-challans were issued for traffic violations, and under Excel Load Management, legal actions were taken against 11,671 overloaded vehicles, with fines amounting to Rs24million deposited into the national treasury. Legal actions were also taken against 210 vehicles for illegal use of gas cylinders. In the interest of public convenience, 3,275 driving licences were issued, and 9 missing children were reunited with their parents.
Man stabbed to death
A man was stabbed to death over a minor dispute in Nishter Colony. Younger brother of victim Shakir Maseeh had set up a stall in Youhanabad. Suspect Jameel Maseeh was not happy with the stall and wanted to remove it. They exchanged harsh words and Jameel attacked Shakir with a knife. He received serious wounds and died. A case was registered against the suspect.
