LAHORE: A total of 192 staff members of Government College University (GCU), including 48 security guards, received their long-awaited time scale promotions here Friday.
Punjab School Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat and Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shazia Bashir handed over the promotion letters to employees, acknowledging their patience and perseverance.
‘These promotions have been pending for several years, and it is a great joy to see our dedicated staff finally receive the recognition they deserve,’ Dr Shazia Bashir stated. The minister commended the promoted employees and reiterated the government's commitment to addressing such long-standing issues. ‘We promoted school teachers by giving a deadline of two weeks,’ he said.
The minister also announced future plans and collaborations, stating, ‘the Google team is coming to Pakistan, and we will invite them to visit GCU.’ He also announced a cash award for Government College University's Music Society.
Centre for special students inaugurated
An Independent Living Centre dedicated to the better care of special students and individuals was inaugurated at the University of Home Economics (UHE) here Friday.
Punjab Governor/ Chancellor Sardar Saleem Haider, and UHE Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, Secretary Women Development Department Sumaira Samad, other officials, students and faculty members were also present. During the ceremony, governor also launched the new website of University of Home Economics.
In his address, governor praised the establishment of the centre, emphasising the importance of caring for special individuals. He commended alumnae Amina Aftab for initiating the Independent Living Centre. He stressed that special individuals were dear to us and it was our duty to facilitate their lives. Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi reiterated the university’s commitment to focusing on special students.
