Minister calls meeting on narcotics, antibiotics

LAHORE : Taking notice of indiscriminate use of antibiotics and narcotic drugs in Punjab, Health Minister Khawaja Imran has given an indication to stop unnecessary use of antibiotics throughout Punjab.

Kh Imran Nazir called an emergency meeting of the District Quality Control Board. DG Drug Control Mohammad Sohail, Additional Secretary Dr Qalandar Khan, Chief Drug Controller Azhar Jamal Saleemi and Secretary PQCB Dr Munoor attended the meeting. Kh Imran Nazir has said that due to unnecessary use of antibiotics, precious human lives are being lost all over the world. It has been decided to consult with the Punjab Healthcare Commission and DRAP to stop the use of these drugs unnecessarily and without a doctor's prescription, he added. The minister said that these recommendations would be submitted to the higher authorities for final approval.
