LAHORE:Anti-tetanus injection used to prevent wound infection has become short at medical stores and pharmacies of Lahore.
People, who get injured in accidents, are facing severe difficulties, as the anti-tetanus injection is also not available in private clinics and hospitals. "The injection must be administered within 72 hours of the injury, as bacteria can enter the body through various wounds," say medical experts.
Anti-tetanus injection is necessary to prevent infection, medical experts say. The pharmacists informed that multinational pharmaceutical company has stopped production of anti-tetanus injections.
"A company that supplies vaccines to other countries, including the US, had a large share in the market," a representative of pharmaceutical manufactures said, adding that manufacturing companies have been supplying vaccines and anti-tetanus injections to other countries, which may have caused the shortage.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Punjab Health Department said that various vaccine pharmaceutical manufacturers are supplying anti-tetanus injection and it is available in government hospitals. "The anti-tetanus injection is being given to accident victims in emergency departments of government hospitals in Lahore," the spokesman added.
