72 teams feature in GCU debating contest

LAHORE:As many as 72 teams of orators from 45 educational institutions of the country participated in the Government College University Lahore’s 28th Parliamentary Style Championship, which brought together a remarkable display of intellectual prowess and oratorical skills.

The three-day debating contest, organised by the University’s Debating Society (GCUDS), is one of the biggest national parliamentary style debates in the country in which this year highly crucial socio-political topics were debated by the shining orators of the country.

The English proposition in the final round on Monday was; “this house proposes glory over a modest, anonymous life.” After the final round, the Punjab University was declared the Best English Team of the competition and awarded the ‘Prof Khalid Aftab Trophy’. The Punjab University beat FCC University Lahore in the finals.

At the individual level, the Punjab University orator M Ali, secured the ‘Syed M Ali Abbass Shield’ for the Best English Speaker, and Rai Daud Ali Kharal from the Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS) was declared the Best Urdu Speaker of the contest. The Prof. Hassan Amir Shah Trophy of Urdu Parliamentary Debates was awarded to the LUMS.
