Old Ravians gather at GCU grand reunion event

LAHORE:The Old Ravians Union (ORU) hosted a grand reunion event at GC University Lahore, bringing together former students from various decades and graduating classes.

Federal Minister of Law, Azam Nazir Tarar, was the chief guest, along with the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and Pemra Chairman, Saleem Baig, who attended as guests of honour. Prof Dr Shazia Bashir, the first female Vice Chancellor of the university, chaired the alumni reunion.

In her address, she mentioned that Pakistan's first nuclear research laboratory was established at Government College Lahore, whose alumni have significantly contributed to the country's atomic program. She expressed pride in her role as the laboratory's first female director.

Federal Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, in an emotional recount of his student days at the college, assured full support to the Vice Chancellor in maintaining the institution’s standards. He emphasised the deep connection of the Old Ravians with their alma mater and mentioned that many of his family members were alumni, with his own admission being through debating and kinship lists.

M Saleem Baig, the Chairman of Pemra, highlighted the unique cultural significance of the institution, stating that Government College Lahore was not just an institution; it's a name synonymous with culture that transforms the lives of everyone who becomes part of this community.

Syed Tayyab Hussain Rizvi, President of the Old Ravians Union, announced the upcoming establishment of a dedicated club and a special social media mobile application to unite the Old Ravians from around the world on a single platform.

He advocated for the highest salaries for teachers in the country to attract the best minds to this noble profession. Malik M Ahmad Khan expressed his admiration for Vice Chancellor Dr Shazia Bashir and proposed collaboration between the ORU and the Punjab Assembly to enhance public policy and legislative skills among the Old Ravians.
