Chinese investors urged to invest in solar panel plants

LAHORE: Chinese Consul-General Zhao Shirin Thursday met with Punjab Minister of Industry and Commerce Ch Shafay Hussain in the committee room of Punjab Investment Board and agreed to increase cooperation in technical education, information technology, agriculture, solar and other sectors.

During the meeting, a new cooperation agreement was also discussed between the Punjab Tianjin University of Technology and the Chinese government.

The Chinese envoy congratulated the minister on assuming the post of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. The envoy appreciated the steps taken by the Punjab Investment Board to promote foreign investment and said many Chinese companies have invested in Punjab while the provincial government will welcome more investment from Chinese companies. He said effective measures have been taken to protect the security and investment of the Chinese. The minister said the government wanted to establish manufacturing plants of solar panels in Punjab and urged Chinese investors to avail the opportunity and enjoy facilities.

The minister said by improving the quality of technical education, valuable foreign exchange can be obtained by sending skilled manpower to foreign countries for employment. He said skill education up-gradation plan has been made and syllabus of courses are being changed and aligned with modern requirements. The minister said short courses are being introduced in Punjab Tianjin University of Technology and links between the students and the industry will be increased.
