LAHORE:HRCP has deplored violence that marred by-election in Punjab in which a PML-N worker was killed in Narowal. There is no room for violence and polarisation in a functioning democracy in which the state must uphold respect for dissenting opinions and ensure that electoral contests are safe and peaceful affairs, it said. Moreover, no election should be cause for disrupting people's access to connectivity - this is fast becoming a permanent feature of Pakistani elections and must be reversed, it added.
