LAHORE: Punjab Skill Development Policy 2024 was approved in a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister of Industry and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain at Tevta Secretariat on Friday.

Ch Shafay while addressing the meeting said that under the Punjab Skill Development Policy, the goals for the next five years have been set and three Skill Technology Parks will be built while 20 institutions will be made centres of excellence. Labs of technical education institutes will be upgraded according to international standards, courses will be shifted to CBTA to align with modern requirements and five lakh youth will be trained annually, he added. He said that government will empower the youth by equipping them with modern sciences. It is my mission to promote quality technical education and upgrade technical institutions to global standards. The provincial minister directed that the biometric attendance system of students and staff should be implemented in institutions soon and the problems of technical universities should be solved on a priority basis.

The issue of foreign direct investment of 350 million dollars in the cement plant project in Chakwal area was reviewed in the meeting. The issues of land acquisition for GTTI Kasur and technical universities were also reviewed. Secretary Industries and Commerce Ehsan Bhutta, Additional Secretary Commerce, COO Tevta, DG PSDA, Senior Economic Adviser and other officers participated in the meeting.
