LAHORE: A 35-year-old motorcyclist suffered injury due to kite string in Ichhra on Friday. The victim identified as Rizwan was riding a bike and going somewhere. As he reached near Zahoor Elahi Underpass, his throat was injured due to a kite string. Rescue 1122 team shifted him to a nearby hospital.
It is pertinent to mention that the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on kite flying and observing zero tolerance policy in this regard. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken notice of an incident and expressed her displeasure over kite flying despite the ban and directed the CCPO to submit a report on the matter.
Man kills wife over domestic dispute
A man shot dead his 25-year-old wife over a domestic dispute in the Sundar area on Friday. The suspect identified as Boota reportedly had an eight-month old child from his wife Anum. He would often quarrel with her. On the day of the incident, he was so frustrated after an exchange of harsh words that he opened firing at the victim, who died on the spot. Her body was moved to morgue.
The suspect afterwards fled from the scene. Police said that they were investigating the matter further.
PHP detains 1,381 criminals in February
In the month of February, the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) conducted street checks through e-Police Post app across Punjab and arrested 1,381 criminals of different categories, including proclaimed offenders (POs).
The PHP checked 1.70 million vehicles with the help of modern technology and recovered 292 stolen vehicles including 27 cars, 252 motorcycles and 13 other vehicles. The PHP authorities imposed fine on traffic rules violators to the tune of Rs 212,805.
Legal action was taken against 590 vehicles across the province for using gas cylinders and ticketed 92, 413 vehicles. The PHP issued 8,623 driving licences last month and recovered 4 Kalashnikovs, 9 rifles and 65 pistols from criminals and booked 78 accused.
The force extended assistance and guidance to 7,028 passengers on roads across the province. The PHP reunited 44 missing children with their parents and provided first aid to 154 people who suffered injuries in various accidents.
The PHP officials recovered 2,300 litre liquor, 23,635 gram hashish and 9,120 gram opium from drug dealers. Additional IG PHP Abdul Kareem directed the officers and officials to perform their duties with more diligence and zeal.
