Completion of projects to resolve energy crisis: CM

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that billions of rupees are being spent on speedy development of the province and implementation of public welfare projects.

Timely, transparent and quality completion of the development projects is being ensured, he added. He said that projects of education, health, agriculture, potable water and energy were being completed on priority basis so that people could benefit from their fruits as early as possible. He said that full attention was paid to energy projects. He expressed the hope that loadshedding would be ended from the country with the completion of energy projects. He said that no negligence would be tolerated in completion of development projects.

The departments concerned are responsible for timely completion of development projects and they would have to work with the spirit of public service and hard work, he added.

He said this while chairing a meeting to review progress of development projects under Annual Development Programme on Tuesday. Provincial ministers, advisers, chief secretary, Planning and Development chairman and the secretaries of all provincial departments were present.

Shahbaz Sharif said that every citizen had right to potable water and for this purpose, a comprehensive programme of provision of clean drinking water was being ensured expeditiously. He said that provision of potable water will be ensured to citizens under Saaf Pani Project at a cost of billions of rupees.

He said that round the clock efforts were being made for bringing the country out of energy crisis. He said that an example had been set by saving billions of rupees in energy and other projects..He said that government departments should build their capacity for timely completion of development schemes.

He said that agriculture sector was the backbone of the national economy, and a package of Rs 100 billion had been given for the development of agriculture sector and prosperity of cultivators. He said that Daanish Schools are playing an important role in the promotion of education in the backward areas and providing quality education free of cost to the children of poor families. He said that setting up of Daanish schools in the less developed areas would curb the trend of extremism in the areas. He said that new Daanish schools were being set up in Vehari, Bhakhar and Taunsa. He said that Daanish Schools System would leave a positive impact on promotion of quality education and development of educational sector.

The chief minister said that after completion of revolutionary project of computerisation of land record, e-stamp papers were being launched and this project would start as a pilot project from Gujranwala. He said that a state-of-the-art knowledge park was being established in the provincial metropolis. He said that completion of this project would help promote quality education and research.

He said that under the Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme, a mega project of construction and rehabilitation of rural roads was being speedily implemented throughout the province. He said that completion of this project of billions of rupees would result in development of rural economy as well as raising living standard of the rural population.

Planning and Development Chairman Jehanzeb Khan gave a briefing on progress on Annual Development Programme. Provincial Ministers Rana Mashhood, Syed Haroon Sultan and Asif Bha attended the meeting through video link.
