LAHORE:The Lahore High Court Friday ordered immediate sealing of cafes in Johar Town for violating the anti-smog instructions.
Hearing petitions filed against the smog, Justice Shahid Karim remarked construction of nine underpasses was causing traffic jam. “Tell the court by Monday after consultation when the construction of underpasses could be completed”, he directed.
Counsel of LDA informed the court construction and renovation of underpasses in Lahore would be completed by December 25. “Complete it quickly, December 25 is far away”, the judge observed.
The court ordered to fine the violating restaurants Rs50,000 each. The court also ordered to seal them.Justice Shahid Karim asked the LDA counsel how many days would it take if he allows renovation of underpasses even during the day? “Consult on this and give a final date to complete renovation of underpasses”, the judge said.
The court inquired whether CBD had initiated any green project. High-rise buildings were being erected, but no one had started green project, the judge said.Member Judicial Water Commission told the court when the first meeting was held with CBD, they had said the green project would be started. The court sought a report on the green project on the next hearing. The hearing was adjourned till Monday.
