LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Higher Education Mansoor Qadir has emphasised tackling smog issues through innovative solutions.
He was addressing the three-day 4th International Conference on 'Emerging Trends in Earth and Environmental Sciences' organised by Punjab University College of Earth & Environmental Sciences (CEES) on Monday.
On the occasion, Minister of State on Tourism Sayed Wasi Shah, CEES Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, delegates from Germany, Canada, Colombia, Pakistan, etc. researchers, experts, faculty members and students were present.
Mansoor Qadir said academia and industry should work together to overcome environmental challenges of this era. Wasi Shah highlighted climate change's impact on the environment, water resources, biodiversity and ecosystems. He appreciated the efforts of PU CEES for organising such a moot. Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad expressed hope that ideas generated through the conference would foster more sustainable and harmonious relationships between humanity and the environment. He said smog was very harmful to lungs of pregnant women and babies in the womb. He said we have to take steps together to secure the future of our coming generations.
Dr Mathias Liess highlighted ecosystem security, Dr Kimberly and others focused on smog eradication strategies. Dr Mumtaz Cheema, Dr Ian Sutherland and Dr Sonja Knutson stressed agricultural and environmental protection.
In the end, Dr Muhammad Waqar and Dr Abdul Qadir extended gratitude to participants from various sectors, including industry, academia, national, and international organizations. The conference will conclude tomorrow (Wednesday).
UVAS quiz competition ends
The 3rd National DVM Quiz competition organised by the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) concluded here on Monday.
Total 11 teams from various veterinary institutions from all over the country participated and the quiz rounds were conducted in the hybrid mode (online/offline). The semifinal and final rounds were held at UVAS City Campus.
The overall trophy was won by the UVAS Lahore team. Speaking on the occasion, the UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad appreciated the participating teams and applauded the efforts of the winning teams. Later, Vet Crescent Society of the UVAS arranged the annual oath-taking ceremony at the City Campus Lahore. The VC chaired the oath-taking ceremony and administered oaths to the new office-bearers of the Vet Crescent Society.
