Vegetables sold at double rates

LAHORE:The government has managed to bring down the prices of perishable items in the official rate lists after decline in the petroleum products prices but factually it remained at higher side.

The rate list of the last 10 days shows that the rates of some seasonal vegetables are remain changing one to three rupees ups or downs while in the markets it was being sold at double rates.

The price of carrot local remained in the range of Rs48-53 per kilogram during the last 10 days. One day it increases by Rs2 per kg and other day cut by Rs3 per kg. But, in the market, it sold at Rs80-120 per kilogram range which is more than double the official rate. So is the situation with many other seasonal vegetables. This exposes the price fixation mechanism adopted by the market committee and deputy commissioner office officials. The price list is issued with the duly sign of the both department officials while the heads of these two government departments are least bothered with what is happening under their nose.

The price of Musami fixed against per dozen quantity while it is being sold at per kilogram. The per dozen rates are ranging between the Rs80 during the last 10 days while it sold at Rs50-60 per kilogram which actually coverts into Rs130-150 per dozen.

The wrong price fixation also gives a free hand to the sellers to overcharge the consumers. The sellers refused to sell the perishable at official rates and consumers are forced to pay higher rates.

The price of chicken increased by Rs13 per kg, fixed at Rs317-329 per kg, sold at Rs360-380 per kg, and chicken meat fixed at Rs477 per kg, and sold at Rs520-1,000 per kg.

The price of potato sugar-free A-grade increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs130-140 per kg, B-Grade fixed at Rs90-95 per kg, C-grade fixed at Rs80-85 per kg, mixed sold at Rs120 per kg. The price of onion A-grade reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs150 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs90-95 per kg, sold at Rs120 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs80-85 per kg, sold at Rs100-110 per kg.

The price of tomato A-grade gained by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs190-200 per kg, sold at Rs300 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs168-175 per kg, sold at Rs220-240 per kg, and C-grade fixed at Rs168-175 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg.

The price of garlic local increased by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs355-370 per kg, sold at Rs400-450 per kg, and garlic harnai by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs475-495, sold at Rs600 per kg, Garlic China fixed at Rs520-540 per kg, sold at Rs700-800 per kg.

The price Ginger Thai reduced by Rs130 per kg, fixed at Rs435-455 per kg, sold at Rs600 per kg, Garlic Indonesia unchanged at Rs260-270 per kg, sold at Rs500 per kg and ginger China gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs600-620 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg.

Cucumber Farm increased by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs66-70 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Brinjal price was further reduced by Rs12 per kg, fixed Rs28-30 per kg, sold at Rs50-60 per kg. Bitter gourd price increased by Rs8 per kg, fixed at Rs62-65 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg. The price of Spinach farm fixed at Rs35-37, sold at Rs60-70 per kg.

Ladyfinger price declined by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs150-180 per kg.

Carrot Chinese gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs175-180 per kg, sold at Rs250 per kg, carrot local by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs50-53 per kg, sold at Rs80-100 per kg.

Turnip price increased by Rs6 per kg, fixed at Rs86-90 per kg, sold at Rs120-140 per kg. Fenugreek (Methi) price reduced, fixed at Rs105-110 per kg, sold at Rs160-200 per kg. Pea price reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs155-160 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg.

The price of different variety of apples gained by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs60-265 per kg, sold at Rs130-400 per kg.

The price of Banana A-category unchanged at Rs110-115 per dozen, sold at Rs130-150 per dozen, and B-category fixed at Rs90-95 per dozen, sold at Rs120 per dozen, and C-category fixed at Rs65-70 per dozen, sold at Rs80-100 per dozen.

Pomegranate danaydar gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs330-345 per kg, sold at Rs400 per kg, Pomegranate khandahri by Rs35 per kg, fixed at Rs255-265 per kg, sold at Rs250-400 per kg, Pomegranate bedana was gained by Rs45 per kg, fixed at Rs555-575 per kg, sold at Rs700-800.

Guava was fixed at Rs75-135 per kg, sold at Rs130-250 per kg. Musami was reduced by Rs2 per dozen, fixed at Rs74-78 per dozen, sold at Rs130-150 per dozen.
