The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in view of an earthquake of 7.1 magnitude on Richter scale on Sundayhas instructed the related disaster management authorities in the governments of Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa besides other related bodies for carrying out assessment of damages caused, if any, in their jurisdictions.
According to the official spokesperson of NDMA, immediately after the tremors jolted several parts of the country alerts were issued to all Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to caution exercise in view of expected aftershocks.
As per instructions DMAs of provinces, AJ&K, Government of Balochistan and FATA have been asked to carryout damage assessment. Instructions were also issued to NHA, WAPDA, PTA and all other relevant departments also to assess damages.
Similarly, Pakistan Air Force was requested to carryout aerial photography/survey to evaluate damages to infrastructure and slope stability of mountains in GB and KP. SUPARCO was asked to provide satellite imageries to analyse the extent of damages, if any in GB and KP. National Emergency Operation Centre of NDMA is already activated to monitor the situation 24/7.
