Two brothers among 3 hanged

LAHORE

Three death row prisoners including two brothers were hanged in Kot Lakhpat Jail on Wednesday morning.

The dead bodies were handed over to their families after completing legal formalities. The hanged persons have been identified as Imran, Nauman and Raheel. Police said Imran and Nauman, two real brothers, had killed one Awais in Islamabad in 1996. They were convicted in 1997. Their clemency pleas were rejected at all forums following which their death warrants were issued. The third person had killed a man in Dera Ghazi Khan. They were hanged in the presence of a magistrate, superintendent jail, doctor and jail admin.

Patient commits suicide: A 65-year-old mentally retarded patient committed suicide by jumping from the second floor of Jinnah Hospital on Wednesday.

Zubaida Bibi of Haveli Lakha had been under treatment in the hospital for the last seven days. On the day of the incident, she committed suicide. Police said the hospital guard had stopped her once but she skipped from the ward again and committed suicide.

OPERATIONS: On the instructions of Punjab IG Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera, search operations continued across Punjab with the cooperation of CTD and other intelligence agencies. After the Lahore incident, 1,423 search operations have so far been conducted. During these search operations, 49,920 persons were questioned and 49,033 have been released after questioning whereas 887 persons are kept in protective custody.
