Rain likely today

Partly cloudy weather with chances of rain and thunder is expected in the provincial metropolis on Sunday (today).

A westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of the country and likely to persist till Sunday. Rain-thunderstorm occurred at scattered places in KP, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while light rain at isolated paces in upper Punjab and its surrounding. Weather remained dry elsewhere in the country. The maximum temperature in the city was 35 degrees Celsius while that in the country was 43°C at Shaheed Benazirabad .

Parts of the country where it rained were Parachinar 70 mm, Pattan 64, Dir, Kalam 51, Malamjabba46, Saidu Sharif 35, Chitral, Lower Dir 28, Balakot 25, Mirkhani 17, Drosh 07, Bannu 04, Peshawar 02, D.I.Khan, Kakul 01. Gilgit-Baltistan: Astore 17, Chillas 14, Gilgit 09, Gupis 05, Hunza 04, Bagrote 03, Bunji, Skardu 01, Kashmir: Garhi Dupatta, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot 11, Kotli 01, Punjab: Murree 09, Kamra and Bhakkar 01 mm.

In the next 24 hours, widespread rain-thundershower accompanied by strong gusty winds with isolated heavy falls and snowfall over the hills is expected in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir. Scattered rain-thundershower accompanied with strong gusty winds is expected KP (Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Kohat, D.I.Khan divisions), upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala divisions) and isolated rain-thundershower with strong gusty winds/dust raising winds expected in D.G.Khan, Multan, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Lahore, Quetta , Zhob Kalat, Sibbi divisions.

Heavy downpours may trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas during the period. Heavy downpours may also generate isolated flash flooding in the local ravines and streams of the above mentioned areas on Saturday/Sunday.
