On the occasion of the anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Lebanon, Ambassador Mona El Tannir and Muhieddine El Tannir hosted a reception at the Shishmahal Hall of Serena Hotel. It was attended by a fairly large number of guests from the diplomatic community as well as Pakistanis from different walks of life. The guest of honour was Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen (r) Abdul Qadir Baluch.
After walking down a rose strewn pathway, guests were greeted by the soft spoken ambassador, her husband and members of the embassy at the entrance to the hall. On arrival of the guest of honour, the national anthems of Lebanon and Pakistan had been played, the cake cutting ceremony took place and was participated in by envoys from Arab countries and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, ambassador of Argentina, Rodolfo Martin-Saravia.
Dinner was served with specialties like shwarma being enjoyed by the guests. During this time those who were interested got to view the video screening of the sights and sounds of Lebanon. To quote: “As contradictory and challenging as it is charming, this diminutive Mediterranean nation stands with one bejewelled slipper in the Arab world and one Manolo Blahnik planted firmly in the West.
It’s a place where culture, family and religion are all-important.
Home to a world-famous national cuisine, a string of beach resorts and the Middle East's most glamorous city (Beirut), this is also a country where the fiery orators and fierce foot soldiers of Hezbollah are based, and where scores of Palestinian and Syrian refugees currently shelter. Scarred by decades of civil war, invasions and terrorist attacks, yet blessed with magnificent mountain vistas, majestic ancient ruins and a people who are resilient, indomitable and renowned for their hospitality, Lebanon rewards the traveler with food for thought and a feast for the senses and the stomach.”
