It is quite heartening to see that there are a few organisations in Pakistan that are constantly putting in efforts to promote education especially among girls. And one such organisation is Dawood Global Foundation (DGF) who through their initiative ‘Educate a Girl’ has up till now funded 880 deserving girls in Pakistan to become journalists. But only educating them is not enough. There is a dire need of creating job opportunities for deserving female candidates and also train them for job interviews and how to make a positive impact during the interview.

Keeping that in mind, recently, the Swiss Consulate General Karachi and the DGF partnered to host an ‘Educate a Girl Job Pitching Session’ at the Swiss Consulate. During the event a few Educate a Girl scholarship winners, who are now budding journalists, gave speed ‘hire me’ pitches to leading members of the media.

A two hour job pitching training was conducted at the Swiss Consulate using role playing and interactive real time feedback, prior to the official session. At the event, Emil Wyss, the Swiss Consul General said, “We are happy to support such an important initiative of job placement of vocationally trained girls in Pakistan.”

Later on, the Swiss Consul General also provided tips on making a high impact and positive first impression, how to seal a job, and overall advice in building one’s career. Arie Wyss, the wife of the Consul General, helped in motivating girls and building their confidence.

Educate a Girl Winner, Chloris Nadine said, “This was a great learning experience for me in how to present myself at a job interview as well as a wonderful opportunity to meet some leading journalists.”

This is not all! Representatives from diverse media outlets were present at the event who had come to hear the job pitches and also mentor the scholars, while seeking new talent for their profession. The event was followed by a networking dinner for all.

All in all, the event proved to be a successful one and we hope that such events are organised on a regular basis so that our girls can benefit from it and turn out to be successful entrepreneurs.
