A major fire has destroyed the Toronto Humber Yacht Club after a three-alarm blaze broke out early Wednesday morning.
Fire crews were called to the waterfront site near Humber Valley Road at around 4:47 AM, where they found the building fully engulfed in flames, according to local officials.
The response was quickly escalated from two alarms to three as more crews and equipment were deployed.
Toronto Fire Services confirmed that no one was inside the building and no injuries have been reported.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Fitzgerald said around 100 firefighters and 27 trucks were involved in tackling the blaze. The fire has since been brought under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. Investigators are expected to remain at the scene.
The incident comes shortly after Toronto City Council voted to terminate the yacht club’s lease, citing operational and environmental concerns.
Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area as crews continue operations and assess damage.
