ISLAMABAD: Spanish Ambassador Carlos Morales called on the Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom Anusha Rahman here Thursday.
Federal Secretary IT Azmat Ali Ranjha was also present in the meeting. Matters of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral cooperation in IT and telecom sectors between the two countries were discussed, said a press release.
The minister highlighted the key initiatives being taken by the ministry of IT for the development of IT and telecom sector in Pakistan. She apprised the ambassador that we are pursuing the vision of “accelerated digitization” and connected Pakistan. In order to materialise our vision we have initiated three mega projects of “rural telephony and broadband” in un-served and under-served areas of KP and Balochistan.
Anusha informed the Spanish envoy that after successful auction of 3G/4G last year, we have witnessed an increase in the number of subscribers and now we intend to hold a next round of spectrum auction of leftover spectrum of 20 Mhz in near future.
It’s our ardent desire that Spanish cellular companies should also participate in the next bidding. So it would be a golden opportunity for new entrants. The ambassador observed that Pakistan has improved its economic strength and international ratings. Pakistan is also meticulously addressing all the serious challenges including security and law and order which is a good omen for the international investors and stressed on enhancing people-to-people contact between Spain and Pakistan.
