NAB chairman to oversee probe into Asad Munir suicide
ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal has decided to hold inquiry into the alleged suicide of Brig (R) Asad Munir and to oversee the inquiry himself.
According to the NAB’s announcement, Chairman NAB will personally oversee the inquiry and sought all the relevant record immediately from NAB Rawalpindi to fulfill the legal requirements.
It is to be mentioned that in the mid of the current month, the Executive Board of the NAB approved filing of reference against the Ex-Chairman CDA Kamaran Qureshi, former Estate Member CDA Asad Munir, former Director Estate Khalid Mehmood and others allegedly for illegal restoration of a plot situated at F-11 by misusing their authority inflicting heavy losses to the national kitty. After the NAB decision to file the reference, Brig (R) Asad Munir reportedly committed suicide in his residence on same night and left the suicidal note in which he expressed his serious reservations on the NAB attitude that left no other option for him but to suicide.
In his suicidal note, late Brig (R) Asad Munir also appealed to the Chief Justice to take a suo moto notice. Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa took a suo moto notice last week and directed the Chairman NAB to provide all the relevant record and also investigation report of the NAB in the case.
