2,763 terrorists killed, 347 army jawans embraced martyrdom
837 hideouts destroyed; 253 tonnes of explosives recovered;first year of Zarb-e-Azb completed

MIRANSHAH: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asim Bajwa on Saturday said that so far 2,763 terrorists had been killed, 837 hideouts destroyed and 253 tons of explosives recovered in the last one year since the start of the onging military operation Zarb-e-Azb.
The ISPR issued details about the success achieved during the fight against the militants in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and settled areas of the country.
It said that only a few pockets of militants had remained in the tribal areas along the Afghan border and efforts were underway to dismantle them.
The ISPR said that 2,763 terrorists had been killed, 837 hideouts destroyed and 253 tonnes of explosives were recovered during the ongoing fight against the militants in North Waziristan and Fata. It said that 9,000 terrorists were apprehended during the Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs).
According to the ISPR, 218 hard-core terrorists had been killed in major cities during encounters.
Besides these terrorists, the ISPR said 347 military officials and soldiers has embraced martyrdom in the military offensive so far.
It said that 18,087 weapons including heavy machine guns, light machine guns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, AK-47 rifles were found from the terrorists’ hideouts in North Waziristan.
APP adds: Major General Asim Bajwa said that the strongholds of terrorists, their communication infrastructure and sanctuaries had largely been cleared. He said that the whole nation came together to totally eliminate terrorism from the country. The media and civil society were playing a positive role to help end the menace of terrorism.
The armed forces would continue operations for a terror-free Pakistan, he said.
The DG ISPR said that due to the improved security environment, the Chinese president and other world dignitaries had visited Pakistan.
The Zimbabwe cricket team also conducted a successful tour to Pakistan and played One Day International and T20 cricket matches in Lahore, he added.
