Celebrities share their New Year’s resolutions with Instep and tell us what they plan to achieve this year.

As we bid farewell to a topsy-turvy year, overcast by a pandemic and enter a year that we hope won’t be topsier and turvier, we find ourselves facing an annual tradition that gives us a boost of motivation (and/or fills us with dread): the New Year’s Resolution.

In that spirit, we asked some of our favourite celebrities about their New Year’s resolutions, whether they met the goals they hoped to achieve in 2021, and what targets they have set for 2022.

Junaid Khan

The resolutions people made over the last two years didn’t really work out because everything changed in life. There is so much unpredictability that we stopped making resolutions because things ultimately came down to survival.

My resolution for 2022 is to live one day at a time. I don’t really plan ahead, like what I want to do five or 10 years from now. In my profession, I just try to express myself in whatever field I’m in, be it music, television, or film. And I will keep doing that. I won’t plan far ahead but I will make short-term plans about what I need to work on. So my 2022 resolution would be to keep expressing myself the way I’ve been doing, staying healthy and fit, which is always on my mind, and trying to improve myself and be a better version of myself.

My resolution for 2021 was to just survive and be happy by the end of the year and I think I’m there; I’m ok, I’m in a good space. And it was just to ride this terrible wave of Corona and I think I’ve done a halfway decent job.

My New Year’s resolution for 2022 is to invest in self-development and growth, and in turn I can be better to those around me. So more reading, more things to feed my spirit and my soul, lots of meditations, lots of charity work … stuff like that. That’s my resolution: self-growth, self-awareness, self-fulfilment.

I am most looking forward to the same thing that I look forward to every year, and that is exploring a little bit more of the world, meeting new people, seeing new cultures.

The past two years have only taught me one thing: that New Year’s resolutions don’t count. The pandemic has shown us how fragile life can be and how irreplaceable [it is]. So I’m thankful for every day and I hope that the next is going to be healthier and less painful, as this pandemic [is over] and we can get back to our normal lives. And yes, still keep hoping and praying for positive things. So yeah, one day at a time.

I’m not big on New Year’s resolutions frankly. I can’t really remember what I had for last year but because of Covid it was probably just to have a sense of gratitude for health and happiness, and I think I kept that resolution.

For this year, I think my resolution is to accept myself for who I am and to strive to be better, but at the same time realize that [I’m] human and it’s ok to be human. [So, my resolution is basically] to love myself more and accept myself more.

My New Year’s resolution is:

“Mehfil rangeen hai, mehfil rangeen hai

Ek taraf Roos hai, ek taraf Cheen hai

Mamla sangeen hai, mamla sangeen hai

Beech mein khara hun mein, zid pe yun ara hun mein

Dono say lara hun mein, dono say bara hun mein

Ek taraf naag hai, ek taraf been hai

Mamla sangeen hai”

Looking forward to changing the sound of the nation this year.

Did I keep the 2021 resolution? Ctrl + Alt + Delete!

I think my resolution for 2021 was to drop more and more songs, and I guess I almost achieved it, but I will try to do even better this year.

My New Year’s resolution for 2022 is to be grateful for what I have and not worry about the future at all and live every single moment as if it’s the last! I’m also excited to release my second album this year, followed by a lot of music by me and many talented artists on my record label One Two Records. So I’m looking forward to that as well.

Zoe Viccaji

Last year’s resolution was to be less hard on myself and only do what I felt like doing. I got the hang of letting go by the end of the year, so yes, I ended up keeping it.

This year’s resolution is to give more time to family and friends and to make more of an effort to build these relationships.

I’m looking forward to lots of traveling this coming year with many musical projects abroad.
