The current situation in Palestine is one of utter misery, violence and bloodshed. The dominant force behind it is the Zionist state of Israel. The death toll in Gaza has not stopped rising.

By Thursday it included 58 children and 34 women. 1,230 innocent civilians have been injured. The conflict in Palestine is not new. It has been a tragic part of history for centuries. Israel has manipulated the geographical and social reality of Palestine since 1948 through systematic segregation, displacement and expulsion. The Zionists have followed a colonial policy which aims to oppress and permanently erase the Palestinian state. This racist policy, based on hate and phobia, ironically reminds one of the unforgivable atrocities in Nazi Germany.

As an apartheid state rains missiles and bullets on men, women and children, the most powerful countries in the world have chosen to remain silent in light of politically convenient, fabricated tales of ‘terrorism’ and ‘complications’ in the conflict. The United States of America, a country with a knack for inserting itself in conflicts in the name of peace, has decided, this time, to stand in support of and financially aid the oppressor — Israel. The United Nations supposedly aimed to maintain international peace and security, has also failed to call for a ceasefire to prevent what can be accurately termed as systematic genocide.

Pakistan, has strongly condemned Israeli action. The prime minister has announced plans to send medical aid. Since May 10, it has been in contact with various countries in attempts to pressure Israel to halt attacks on Gaza. The foreign minister met with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, in Ankara and reported “Nothing can shake our resolve as we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Palestine in their legitimate struggle for their right to self-determination and establishment of an independent state with pre-1967 borders and Al Quds Al Shareef as capital.”

As death knocks on the doors of Palestinian families, mainstream media channels including CNN and the BBC continue to produce biased headlines justifying the attacks on Palestine as self-defence for Israel. Public stories on social media show how diabolically different the lives of those in Palestine and Israel are. Where one fears for their life and mourns the loss of their families, the other celebrates the spread of hatred and violence. Even in this age of social media, where each person holds some influence to spread the truth, censorship survives. Search engines on social media websites such Facebook, hashtags on Twitter, and story views on Instagram have all been altered to cover up all those posting in attempts to overcome the media bias. Many around the globe have also taken to the streets in order to demonstrate support for Palestine.
