Gender management info system on the cards
LAHORE
Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) in collaboration with the Urban Unit is developing a web-based Gender Management Information System (GMIS) along with producing Punjab Gender Parity Report 2016 on the status of women in Punjab province.
In this regard, a series of training workshops for district officers of Punjab were organised at Multan, Lahore and Rawalpindi by the PCSW Urban Unit. The objective of the workshops was to brief the district level officers and other stakeholders about the new system and the content of the upcoming Gender Parity Report.
Fauzia Viqar, Chairperson PCSW highlighted recent measures taken by the Punjab government in safeguarding women’s rights while appreciating the role of Urban Unit for facilitating PCSW in preparation of Gender Parity Report that would be launched by Punjab Chief Minister on 7th March regarding International Women’s Day 2016.
“PCSW is encouraging research that will generate relevant data to build, maintain and sustain a database of women and gender issues that have implications on the formulation of provincial policy and strategic action for women empowerment”, she said while talking on the occasion.
The Urban Unit team presented detailed overview of the Gender Parity Report 2016. They explained the role of Urban Unit in collection and review of the data from various districts to be incorporated in the Report.
Imran Javed Qureshi, advocate high court and member of Human Right Commission presented various articles of pro-women legislation.
Abdul Razzaq (Sr M&E Specialist, The Urban Unit) also demonstrated Gender Management Information System and its overall objective to facilitate policy makers. The training workshops were well participated by the senior officers from 15 districts as District Coordination Officers, Additional District Collectors, Executive District Officers, District Officers, District Monitoring Officers and System Network Administrators attended the workshops.
Various officers from districts appreciated the efforts of PCSW, DAI-EDACE and the Urban Unit for holding the workshops and getting the end users of the aforementioned system familiar with it. They were of the view that instead of making pledges and speeches in the wake of upcoming International Women’s Day, concrete efforts should be made to empower women and sensitise them on the acquisition of their basic rights.
