DERA GHAZI KHAN: Parents and students are concerned at improper security of educational institutions in Dera Ghazi Khan.

They said that after the recent terrorists attack on the Bacha Khan University in the KP, the Punjab government had decided to beef up security of schools, colleges and universities across the province and also directed the divisional and district administrations in this regard but to no avail.

The students and their parents said that there was the Ghazi University, Ghazi Medical College, Agriculture College and BZU sub-campus in Dera Ghazi Khan. They said that a large number of students belonging to different districts were getting education in these institutions.

They said that the Ghazi Medical College and Ghazi University situated on Jampur Road in the centre of the city and the commercial hub were being focused by the district administration but the practical aspect was still not visible there. The police carried out checking for hardly two hours at College Chowk some days ago with only three officials that too were insufficient to handle the heavy rush, they added.

On the other hand, the entry and exit points of the city have been left open where no check post has been established and free movement is going on uninterrupted. The students have demanded permanent check posts at all the entry and exit points, which should work round-the-clock, to avoid any untoward incident.

When contacted, the officials said that they had reviewed security plans to ensure safety of the teachers and students. They claimed that a mobile police had been deployed which kept patrolling on College Road and Jampur Road while on the back side of the Ghazi Medical College, a police team remained alert as there was the Central Jail. They said that strength of security guards had been increased in the educational institutions. They said that the commissioner had directed the Ghazi Medical College administration to deploy security guards at the college main points.
