LONDON: Some of Pakistan’s biggest singing sensations will play at a mega musical extravaganza here on the 16th of August at Wembley Arena.
A press conference was held here at the High Commission of Pakistan to publicise the event titled “Pakistan Dhoom 2009”, which is being organised by well-known showbiz promoter Shoaib Alam.
Opening the conference, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the UK Wajid Shamsul Hasan appealed to the Pakistani community to support the musical event on the Independence Day of Pakistan.
The event is being organised on the occasion of Independence Day in order to achieve a set of objectives, foremost of which is to raise funds for the Swat and Malakand IDPs. The proceeds, after deducting expenses, will go to the Prime Minister’s Special Fund for Victims of Terrorism.
Shoaib said the event will be televised live in Pakistan, the Middle East and America by Geo Television, the official media partner of the show. He said the show was being organised at the cost of £250,000.
Headlining the event will be the likes of Rahet Fateh Ali Khan, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and Roxen band’s Mustafa Zahid who needs no introduction to music aficionados from both India and Pakistan. Other mega stars include Shehzad Roy, Annie, Jawad Ahmed and Najam Sheraz, Reema Khan, Humaira Arshad, Raga Boys band, sons of Ustaad Hamid Ali Khan. “Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan have never performed before at Wembley Arena and they are looking forward to playing this exclusive date.”
