Covid-19 claims 26 more lives, infects 1,420 others in Sindh

The novel coronavirus claimed 26 more lives in Sindh during the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,647 in the province from the infectious disease and showing a fatality rate of 1.6 per cent.

As many as 16,528 tests were conducted and 1,420 were tested positive, with the deduction rate standing at 8.6 per cent, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in his daily Covid-19 situation report on Wednesday.

So far 4,727,051 tests had been conducted against which 350,989 cases were diagnosed with the virus. Of them 91 per cent or 318,796 patients had recovered, including 420 overnight. The chief minister said that currently 26,546 patients were under treatment -- 25,604 in home isolation, 877 at different hospitals, 65 patients in isolation centres and 61 on ventilators.

Out of the 1,420 new cases, 1134 were from Karachi: 334 from District East, 275 from District Central, 235 from District South, 123 from District Korangi, 91 from District Malir and 76 from District West. Hyderabad reported 60 cases, Sukkur 33, Jamshoro 26, Shaheed Benazirabad 24, Tharparkar 14, Thatta and Nausheroferoze 12 each, Badin, Sujawal, Tando Allahyar and Mirpurkhas 11 each, Sanghar 10, Matiari nine, Umerkot seven, Ghotki three, Dadu and Larkana two each, Kashmore and Shikarpur one each.

The chief minister urged people to abide by the standard operating procedures issued by the government.
