Suspect involved in 38 bomb attacks arrested

District Malir police, in collaboration with an intelligence agency, have arrested a suspect associated with a banned nationalist group involved in bomb attacks in the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Irfan Ali Bahadur, chief of the District Malir police, said on Tuesday the arrest was made on a tip-off about the presence of a notorious criminal involved in terrorism cases in the airport area.

During the raid conducted in Bhittaiabad of the Airport area, the suspect, identified as Ramesh Kumar, put up resistance before he was arrested. A search of his hideout led to the discovery and seizure of explosive material, wires, grenades, cellphones and CNICs.

During the initial interrogation, the police learnt that the suspect had been involved in more than 38 cracker and bomb attacks from 2010 to 2015, and that he was the mastermind of all the attacks. He is alleged to be associated with the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (Shafi Burfat Group).

SSP Bahadur said Kumar, along with his associates, had remained involved in cracker and bomb attacks, murders of innocent in target killings, arson attacks during strike calls and torching several vehicles.

The suspect further admitted that he received directions from his leader Shafi Burfat, who is alleged to have taken shelter in Germany and become a puppet of foreign agencies which are enemies of the country and use members of the group against Pakistan, especially in Sindh and Karachi.

SSP Bahadur said Shafi Burfat not only issued directives to Kumar for terrorism activities but also provided funds for the purpose, including the purchase of explosive material and financial support for members of his group.
