The novel coronavirus claimed eight more lives in Sindh during the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,621 from the infectious disease and showing a fatality rate of 1.6 per cent.
As many as 16,262 tests were conducted and 1,201 were tested positive, with the deduction rate standing at 7.4 per cent, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in his Covid-19 situation report on Tuesday.
So far 4,710,523 tests had been conducted against which 349,569 cases were diagnosed with the virus. Of them 91 per cent or 318,376 patients had recovered, including 535 overnight.
The CM said 25,572 patients were under treatment -- 24,671 in home isolation, 837 at different hospitals and 64 patients in isolation centres and 61 on ventilators.
Of the 1,201 new cases, 920 were reported from Karachi: 273 from District East, 237 from District South, 210 from District Central, 134 from District Korangi, 134 from District Malir and 20 from District West. Thatta reported 35 cases, Hyderabad 21, Sanghar 23, Umerkot 20, Kashmore 18, Dadu 14, Badin 13, Shaheed Benazirabab, Sujawal and Sukkur 11 each, Tharparkar and Mirpurkhas 10 each, Jacobabad nine, Jamshoro, Matiari and Tando Allahyar eight each, Tando Muhammad Khan seven, NausheroFeroze and Shikarpur six each.
