Another 17 succumb to Covid in Sindh, 1,046 others infected

Covid-19 claimed 17 more lives in Sindh during the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll to 5,583 in the province. In the meantime, 720 patients were under treatment at different hospitals, of whom the condition of 663 was said to be critical with 52 of them shifted onto life support.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said this on Friday in his daily statement on the pandemic situation in the province. He added that 1046 new cases of the viral diseases had also been detected during the previous 24 hours after 15,391 tests were conducted.

He explained that the detection of 1,046 cases against 15,391 samples constituted a 6.8 per cent current detection rate. So far, 4,645,992 tests for Covid-19 had been conducted in the province, against which 345,252 cases were diagnosed, of which 91.8 per cent or 316,860 patients had recovered, including 579 during the previous 24 hours, he added.

The CM said there were currently 22,809 patients

of Covid-19 in Sindh. Of them 22,033 were in home isolation, 56 at isolation centres and 720 at different hospitals.

Of the 1,046 new cases, Shah said, 820 were detected from Karachi. District East had 301 new cases, District Central 200, District South 131, District Korangi 105, District West 51 and District Malir had 32 new cases.

In the rest of Sindh, Hyderabad had 31 new cases, Naushehro Feroz and Thatta 20 each, Badin 13, Shaheed Benazirabad 12, Sanghar 11, Tando Allahyar 10, Matiari and Sujawal nine each, Tando Muhammad Khan and Jamshoro eight each, Umerkot seven, Dadu and Kashmore six each, Larkana three, Sukkur two, and Ghotki, Kamber-Shahdadkot and Khairpur had one new case each.

The CM urged the people of the province to follow the standard operating procedures to prevent themselves and others from contracting the contagious disease.
