Elahi seeks EU’s role in resolving Kashmir issue

LAHORE: First woman Ambassador of European Union Ms Androulla Kaminara along with a delegation called on Punjab Assembly Speaker Ch Pervaiz Elahi at his residence here Tuesday.

The delegation included Political Affairs, Trade and Communication head Daniel Clauss, Charlie and Information Officer Syed Khawar Hussain. During the meeting views were exchanged regarding prevailing national political situations besides matters of mutual interest.

The speaker said that only Kashmir is the basic issue between Pakistan and India. “We want Kashmir dispute to be resolved peacefully according to the United Nations Resolutions. Civil and military leadership and entire nation are united on Kashmir issue.

These days human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir are at their maximum peak. International community should take notice of this. We hope that the European Union will play its role in the peaceful solution to Kashmir issue and stop Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir for restoration of peace in the region, Ch Pervaiz Elahi said.

He informed the European Union Ambassador that the present Punjab Assembly has done record legislation. “So far 90 bills have been passed pertaining to education, health, agriculture and different sectors of public welfare. The government is taking different measures for improvement in provision of economy, investment, tourism, education, quality medical facilities. Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with European Union member countries to its mutual friendly and trade relations,” Ch Pervaiz Elahi said.

Thanking Ch Pervaiz Elahi, European Union Ambassador Androulla Kaminara said the European Union attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan. In terms of trade Pakistan is a very important country. European Union wants to further enhance its trade with Pakistan particularly in textiles, the ambassador said.
