Karachi may get monsoon rains from mid-July, says Met Office
The Met Office said the temperature in the city was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius, with winds blowing at a speed of 20 kilometres an hour.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department on Sunday said the monsoon rain spell in Karachi is expected to begin in mid-July. The Met Office said the temperature in the city was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius, with winds blowing at a speed of 20 kilometres an hour.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has written to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah urging all the stakeholders to work jointly ahead of the fresh monsoon spell to avoid a repeat of last year’s tragic incidents during heavy monsoon downpour in the city.
In the letter dated June 16 the governor shared how the heavy rainfall in Karachi last year had led to tragic incidents, and said that the CM being the executive head of the province should mobilise all the relevant institutions.
Ismail said that saving the lives of the people is among the top priorities of the government. He said the clearing of the storm water drains and the removal of encroachments on and along their banks in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders would help in taking concrete measures to prevent another situation like last year’s.
He also said the K-Electric, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and the Sukkur Electric Power Company have been directed to take the necessary measures ahead of the monsoon spell in their jurisdictions to avoid load-shedding during the rains.
The governor shared that the cantonment boards have also been directed to deal with the rain-related issues. It is time for all the stakeholders to work jointly, he said while assuring complete support on behalf of the federal government.
