MINGORA: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Sunday said the government lacked the ability to revive the weakening economy so it had started mortgaging motorways and airports to secure loans.

Addressing a gathering here, he said the government had buried the country under huge debt.

“The national debt is piling up with each passing day due to the flawed economic policies of the rulers,” he remarked. On the occasion, scores of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Awami National Party workers from Swat, including Khursheed Ahmad Khan, Irfan Ali, Rahat Ali and others, announced joining the QWP.

Criticising the government, Sikandar Sherpao said the rulers had reneged on all election pledges and were now hiding behind lame excuses.

“The rulers are now blaming the previous governments to hide their incompetence and fool the people with hollow slogans,” he commented.

Sikandar Sherpao said inflation coupled with unemployment had made life miserable for the have-nots, but the rulers were least bothered to provide them any relief to mitigate their sufferings.

The government was dragging its feet to announce the next National Finance Commission award, the QWP leader said, adding that the provincial government had also compromised on the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
