Ronaldinho to visit Pakistan for teqball promotion
KARACHI: Two-time FIFA World Player of the Year Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho is to visit Pakistan to promote teqball in the country.
Pakistan Teqball Federation president Mian Absar Ali told ‘The News’ that after the installation of their first court in Islamabad next month they would invite Ronaldinho, who is the official ambassador of Teqball.
“He is interested in visiting Pakistan for the promotion of this new sport. He is coming in a few months,” said Absar. It is to be noted that Ronaldinho and his brother started the official teqball federation in Brazil.
Teqball was invented in 2014 by former Hungarian footballer Gábor Borsányi, with Viktor Huszár, a computer scientist, and Gyuri Gattyán, a businessman. In Pakistan, former hockey Olympian Samiullah has supported this new sport.
“This game helps improve physical strength of players. The government should promote this sport in schools, colleges, and at district level,” said Samiullah. In Karachi, the very first facility has been developed by Alpha College and an exhibition match was played on Saturday. “We are organising various sports for our students and teqball is a new exciting addition to our sports culture,” said Director Alpha College Salman Mustafa.
