Hydropower increases with rise in river flows

LAHORE: The hydropower generation has increased significantly following rise in river flows. According to a spokesman for the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda), hydropower generation situation during peak and off-peak hours had improved to considerable level. The Wapda hydropower plants are supplying 5,800MW of electricity to the national grid in off-peak hours. Other Wapda hydropower plants, including Tarbela, are operating normally, added the spokesman.

He said the Wapda power plants were generating electricity according to the discharge of water. Tarbela is supplying 2,936MW of electricity to the national grid in off-peak hours. The total production of Wapda hydropower plants including Tarbela would be further increased.

Earlier, the spokesman released power generation data of peak hours, announcing great increase in Wapda hydropower generation. About 7,450MW of hydropower was supplied to the national grid from Wapda hydropower plants in peak hours, Wapda spokesman said. This generation of Wapda hydropower was 1,750MW more than the previous day. More than 3,850MW of hydropower was generated from Tarbela in peak hours.
