Seven die of Covid-19 in Sindh as 580 new cases detected

Covid-19 claimed seven more lives in Sindh during the previous 24 hours, raising the death toll due to 5,243 in the province. In the meantime, 703 patients of the viral disease were under treatment at various hospitals, of whom the condition of 644 was stated to be critical with 57 of them on life support.

In addition to seven deaths during the previous 24 hours, 580 new cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed after 12,825 tests were conducted, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said on Sunday in his daily statement on the pandemic situation in the province.

He added that with a total of 5,243 deaths, the Covid-19 fatality rate remained at 1.6 per cent. Shah explained that emergence of 580 new cases through 12,825 samples constituted a 4.5 per cent current detection rate. He added that so far 4,286,083 tests for Covid-19 had been conducted, against which 328,167 cases were diagnosed, of which 91.2 per cent or 299,446 patients had recovered, including 271 during the previous 24 hours.

According to the CM, there are currently 23,478 patients of Covid-19 in Sindh, of whom 22,755 are in home isolation, 703 in different hospitals and 20 in isolation centres. Shah said that of the 580 new cases, 355 were detected from Karachi. Sharing the district-wise statistics, he said District East of Karachi had 130 new cases, District Central 68, District South 64, District Korangi 47, District West 25 and District Malir had 21.

In the rest of Sindh, Hyderabad had 25 new cases, Jamshoro and Kashmore 17 each, Matiari 16, Badin 15, Umerkot 14, Sujawal and Tando Allahyar 12 each, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar and Nawabshah 10 each, Noushehro Feroz and Kamber-Shahdadkot nine each, Dadu, Khairpur and Tharparkar eight each, Sukkur and Jacobabad five each, Larkana and Ghotki two each, and Shikarpur had one new case.
