Police on Saturday claimed to have killed a suspect while he was trying to flee along with his companions after killing a police constable during an exchange of fire within the limits of the Sacchal police station.

According to police, the encounter took place in the Madinah Colony area when three suspects were trying to escape after killing Police Constable Shabbir Shah, 51, son of Yousuf Shah.

Police launched an operation in the area and killed one of the suspects while two of his companions managed to flee. Police also claimed to have recovered the weapon used in the killing of the constable.

The body of the suspect was taken to a morgue for want of identification; however, citizens and a fellow cop of the deceased policeman confirmed that he was involved in the police encounter.

Police said that the constable along with a fellow cop had gone near the Jamali Flyover on the Super Highway upon receiving information through the Police Helpline 15 about a robbery. He had an exchange of fire with the robbers, during which he was shot once in his head and died shortly after it.

The martyred cop was posted at the Sacchal police station. He is survived by a widow, two daughters and as many sons. His funeral prayers were offered at the Special Security Unit headquarters.
