Khyber College of Dentistry awards gold medals to 100 students

PESHAWAR: Amid golden jubilee celebrations, the Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) awarded gold medals to 100 students for their outstanding performance in annual professional examinations conducted by the Khyber Medical University (KMU).
Female graduates of the dental college won most of the gold medals. Some of the graduates were awarded gold medals by Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan during convocation of the college held on Friday. Provincial Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai gave the remaining medals to the young dentists during Golden Jubilee celebrations of the institution on Saturday.
Shahram Khan Tarakai also formally launched golden jubilee celebrations of the college as chief guest.The college administration and students had arranged events with different scientific sessions and stalls of dental equipment to commemorate 50 years of the dental institution.
One of the female graduates, Maheen Gul won 11 gold medals and was declared the best graduate of session 2007-2011. She had topped sessions 2008-2009 and 2010-2011.Similarly, Erum Saleem Khan was given gold medal for getting top position in the session 2007-2008. Another female graduate, Palwasha Abid received seven gold medals and was declared the best graduate of 2008-2012.
She had topped the session 2008-2009, 2009-210 and then 2011-2012, along with Tayyaba Bibi. Palwasha Abid is the daughter of Prof Dr Abid Hussain, principal Khyber Girls Medical College (KGMC) Hayatabad inPeshawar.
Another female graduate, Sara Jan Ali received gold medal for getting top position in session 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Saulat Jehan topped 2011-2012 session and was declared the best graduate of 2009-2013. Seema Abid got gold medal for her top position in session 2012-2013.
Similarly, another female graduate Mishgan Hidayat received three gold medals for her top positions in 2011-2013 and 2012-2014 and was declared the best graduate of 2010-2014. Arifa Rahman was given gold medal for obtaining top position in session 2010-2011 and Laleena Irshad received gold medal for getting maximum marks in session 2011-2013. Health Minister Shahram Khan praised the college faculty for their hard work and congratulated the graduates and particularly position holders and their parents for their achievements.He said the PTI government was fully aware of the problems being faced by the patients and health services providers and that’s why it prepared one of the best systems for the health sector. He said before implementing the system, government took all the stakeholders into confidence and added their input in the new system.
At the final session of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Minister for Public Health Shah Farman Khan was the chief guest. He said that the PTI government had made commitment with the people to bring reforms in health and education sectors, saying they succeeded in their mission to a large extent as they had introduced the best reforms in health. He said once these reforms are implemented, the masses as well the doctors, nursing staff, paramedics and other staff will get the benefits. He said senior and professional health experts such as Prof Dr Ijaz Hassan Khan, Principal Khyber Medical College (KMC) had contributed in the Medical and Teaching Reforms Acts 2015.
Prof Dr Ghulam Rasool, principal KCD, spoke about growth of the college during these 50 years. He praised all the former principals and faculty members for their hard work that helped KCD become one of Pakistan’s prestigious dental college. He said KCD, started from a dental department on October 11, 1964 with four teachers and 14 students in two classrooms, had given birth to eight baby dental colleges.
