Dr Kayani relinquishes charge of RIC executive director
Islamabad : A distinguished cardiologist and founder of Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) Dr. Prof Major General Azhar Mahmood Kayani has relinquished the charge of executive director of the institute on attaining superannuation.
General Azhar Kayani, who developed the RIC into a state-of-the-art cardiac centre in his eight years association with it, has opted to return to private life where he will be supervising Medikay Cardiac Centre, yet another state-of-the-art 60-bedded cardiovascular centre, first standard facility in Chak Shehzad.
Dr Kayani was given befitting send off by the doctors and whole staff of the institution despite the days of coronavirus pandemic.
The services of Professor Dr. General Azhar Kayani were profusely lauded by doctors and staff alike of the institute on the occasion. They were of the view that General Azhar would be remembered not only for his high professional and medical skills but also for his humility and generosity.
Besides having over 20 publications and about 40 years of clinical experience, Maj. Gen. Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kayani has the privilege of being the personal physician to the President and Prime Minister of the country.
Dr. Azhar Mahmood Kayani hails from Jhelum, graduated from King Edwards Medical College, Lahore in 1979 and joined Army Medical Corps in 1980. In 1989, he qualified MRCP (UK) from London.
He was then appointed as consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) and subsequently served at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Multan, where he established a cardiac centre in September 1991. Adding to his remarkable performance, he has the prestige of being the President of Pakistan Cardiac Society and Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at AFIC.
