Jauhar Saleem takes charge as ambassador to Italy
ROME: One of the senior most ambassadors of Pakistan Foreign Service, Jauhar Saleem, has arrived here and taken charge as the new envoy of Pakistan to Italy, despite the disruption of flights and lockdowns.
According to a press release, Jauhar Saleem had been overseeing the working of Pakistan’s embassy in Rome, while being ambassador to Germany earlier, since the last two months when the mission was without an ambassador. Under his watch, the Pakistani diaspora in two of the countries worst hit by COVID-19 pandemic had been well looked after, avoiding any the major crises faced by some other Pakistani communities abroad.
Much respected in the Foreign Service for his diplomatic skills and strategic thinking, Jauhar Saleem has been known as a trouble shooter since long, having headed both the evacuation operations for thousands of Pakistanis stranded in war torn Libya and Yemen, some years ago. With his arrival in Rome, he becomes the only career diplomat in Pakistan to do four ambassadorial assignments since Riaz Khokhar and Ashraf Jehangir Qazi, almost twenty years later.
