Shaukat elected as Punjab NC chief
LAHORE: In its first meeting, the Punjab Normalisation Committee had a two point agenda, first the elections and secondly endorse ban on former members and acquire office and accounts.
The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalisation Committee which announced the provincial NCs in February reconstituted the Punjab committee earlier this month along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh bodies.
The Punjab FA NC after revision and reconstitution include Aneeq-ur-Rehman, Rizwan Asif, Shaukat Ali Khan, M Ashraf Khan and Amir Mahmood but in Thursday’s meeting which was held in DHA Lahore Shoukat Ali Khan, M Ashraf Khan and Amir Mahmood were the attendants. In its first item on agenda was the election of its chairman and Shaukat Ali Khan was elected to the post as proposed by M Ashraf Khan and seconded by Amir Mahmood, said the press release of the Punjab FA NC. Whereas Anwar Sheikh was appointed as general secretary Punjab NC.
Addressing another item on the agenda, the three members who attended the meeting decided to endorse the ban imposed by PFF on Naveed Haider and issue show cause notice to Mian Rizwan, Rana Shoukat and Asghar Khan Anjum for their indiscipline. It was decided to obtain the office and accounts record from the previous office bearers of Punjab Football Association, said Shaukat Ali Khan, Chairman PFA NC. “The changes have been made to ensure consistency in the number of members in all Provincial Normalisation Committees while also seeking to address concerns regarding conflict of interest,” the PFF NC had said in its last press release earlier this month. The NC claimed that it is trying to ensure that transparent elections of the PFF are held at the earliest with the expectation that it will usher in a new era in Pakistan football.
The mandate of the normalization committee as laid out by FIFA states clearly that it runs the daily affairs; ensure the proper registration and scrutiny of the clubs; draft and ratify, with the assistance of FIFA and the AFC, an electoral code for the PFF; organise and conduct elections at district followed by provincial levels; and organise and conduct the elections of a new executive committee.
