Trade, labour union leaders demand release of Mir Shakil
ISLAMABAD: The trade and labour unions of the country have demanded the release of Editor-in-Chief of Geo and Jang Group Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman while announcing their solidarity with the workers of the largest media group of the country.
The leaders of the labour and trade unions of from all over Pakistan visited the office of Geo News Islamabad on Friday to express solidarity with the workers of Geo and Jang Group. They condemned the arrest of Editor-In-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and shifting of the Geo to last numbers on cable TV from its original position, saying that they stood with the of Geo and Jang Group in difficult times.
The trade unions leadersannounced to fully support and ensure their participation in protest of workers of Geo and Jang Group outside the Geo news offices in Islamabad on March 24.
The meeting of trade union of Pakistan was attended by life-time Secretary General of All Pakistan Newspapers Hawkers Federation Tikka Khan, representative of ILO in Pakistan and All Pakistan Workers Federation Zahoor Awan, Akram Bunda of All Pakistan Workers Federation, Chaudhry Yasin of CDA Union, Imran Khan of All Pakistan Employees Federation, Aslam Niazi of All Pakistan Oil Tankers Association, Javed Baloch of All Pakistan Hydro Electric Workers Union, Shamez Awan of Zarai Tarqiati Bank Union, Itheshamul Haq Bhatti of Sports Board, Javed Nazir of PWD Union, Safdar Nafees of ATU, Office bearers of Jang and Press Workers Union, The News Workers Union and other leaders of trade union.
