LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal Thursday visited the NAB Lahore offices and evinced interest in Jang Group of Newspapers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman case.
According to a press release issued by NAB Lahore, a Combined Investigation Team (CIT), accompanied by legal and land revenue experts, headed by DG NAB Lahore, briefed Chairman NAB thoroughly over Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman case. He was also informed about the updates on his remand. At the occasion, Justice Javed Iqbal maintained that NAB strongly believes in freedom of the media, whereas the Bureau is discharging its national duties as per law and merit against alleged corrupt elements without taking any kind of pressure, threat or bowing before any propaganda campaign being launched against the Bureau.
He said NAB has firm faith in merit-based working while remaining within an ambit of the rule of law. “NAB is the prime anti-corruption body which believes in taking any initiative against an accused purely on merit and after obtaining solid evidence. He stated that NAB actions against the corrupt elements were destined to weed-out corruption from motherland which has been appraised by numerous National and International Organisations like Transparency International (TI), World Economic Forum, Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency, (PILDAT) and MISAL Pakistan, etc.
