SHO suspended for illegal detention
LAHORE:Deputy Inspector General of Police Lahore Rai Babar Saeed suspended Shafiqabad SHO inspector Muhammad Rafiq on Monday.
The SHO was suspended after the DIG paid a surprise visit to the police station and found some people in illegal confinement. He held an Open Court of Shahdara Circle at Police Station Shahdara here Monday and listened to the grievances of the citizens. The complainants raised various issues on which the DIG Operations directed the police officers concerned on the spot for immediate the redress of their genuine grievances.
The DIG said the sole responsibility of police was to provide lawful support to the citizens facing any difficulties and every police officer should serve the humanity with the spirit to render best possible services and ensure safety of life and property of the citizens.
Rai Babar Saeed said that the people’s genuine problems must be solved at police station level on priority basis; however, doors of his office were round-the-clock open to every complainant, he added. Humbleness and politeness should be the face mark of every police officer as Allah has bestowed powers to us only to serve the humanity.
Rai Babar Saeed met with the officers of Shahdara Police Station and said that dutiful officers were pride of the department; however, inefficient and corrupt officers will have to face accountability. He directed the police officers to meet him for redress of their problems, including transfer, posting and other matters instead of using any mean of favour. He said that maintenance of law and order and security of life and property of the citizens was the top priority of Lahore Police. All possible resources are being utilised for the elimination of crime in the city. Separately, DIG Operations Lahore Rai Babar Saeed presided over an important meeting to review the security arrangements on New Year Night. SSP Operations Lahore Muhammad Naveed, SP Security Bilal Zafar, SP Dolphin, SP Headquarters, all divisional SPs and SDPOs attended the meeting. Rai Babar Saeed said that on New Year Night, no one will be allowed to involve in any kind of anti-social activities or hooliganism, including firing, wheelie-doing and use of firearms. To ensure law and order in the city Lahore police will strictly deal with those violating the law and creating trouble for citizens. He directed the police officials to adopt foolproof security measures and remain high alert for ensuring peaceful atmosphere on this eve.
According to the security plan devised by the Lahore Police, six SPs, 35 DSPs, 86 SHOs, 352 subordinates and more than 6,000 police officers, including additional contingents of Dolphin Squads and Police Response Units will perform duty on New Year Night.
Rai Babar Saeed directed all divisional SPs and DSPs to personally visit all the important areas in their respective jurisdictions particularly important public places and adopt stringent security measures in their own supervision. DIG Operations said that all the routes would be scanned and monitored continuously and Dolphin Squads along with Police Response Units would ensure effective patrolling around all important roads, shopping areas, parks and recreational places of the city. Additional contingents of Police will also be deployed at different parks and main recreational points of the city, identified by Lahore Police where majority of people gather on New Year's Night to cope with any untoward situation.
Moreover, Lahore Police will ensure checking of every suspicious person, including bikes and vehicles at entry and exit points of the city. He directed the citizens that being civilised nation they should strictly follow the traffic rules and avoid firing, wheelie-doing and firearms as by doing so they could cause danger to lives of others. The purpose of these security arrangements is to ensure safety of life and property of the citizens along with maintaining law and order on New Year Night, he concluded.
The DIG also visited Data Darbar and reviewed security arrangements. Meanwhile, CCPO also visited Jinnah Hospital and inquired after the health of a head constable Muhammad Saeed who was shot at and wounded by the drug pushers in Wahdat Colony. Police arrested the culprit identified as Asif.
