LANDIKOTAL: Rallies were staged in different parts of the Khyber tribal district on Tuesday to condemn a recent incident of the desecration of the Holy Quran in Norway.
The first protest rally was arranged by the Pasban Tanzeem at the Landikotal Bazaar. Hundreds of people attended the protest. They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against Norway.
The speakers including Tayyab Khalil, Qari Wadanullah and others condemned the desecration of the Holy Quran in Norway. They asked the Muslim states to boycott the Norwegian goods.
The Pasban leaders demand the government to sever trade relations with Norway and expel the Norwegian envoy from Pakistan. The protesters termed Umar Ilyas a hero as he had challenged the person who had tried to burn the copy of the Holy Quran.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, workers and residents of the Jamrud Tehsil staged another protest to condemn the desecration. The protesters marched from Bab-e-Khyber and gathered at the Jamrud Bazaar. They chanted slogans and demanded punishment to the Norwegian man who had desecrated the Holy Quran.
