PMPF office-bearers elected
LAHORE: Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation (PMPF) Saturday elected Riaz Khan Fatyana as its President and Zahoor Ahmed as Secretary here.
The Central Executive meeting of PMPF was held under the chairmanship of President Riaz Khan Fatyana at National Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
The 6th annual meeting also elected new office-bearers for the next 4-year term from 2019 to 2023. Riaz Khan Fatyana was elected President, Mian Sohail Nisar Senior Vice-President and Zahoor Ahmed Secretary General.
The other office-bearers are: Mian Safdar Hussain Vice-President, Zafaryab Khan Vice-President, Javed Chohan Chairman Planning and Development, Iqbal Shahid Associate Secretary, Faisal Masood Associate Secretary, Umar Javed Finance Secretary and Ms Oksana Lyman chairperson Women Wing.
While addressing the press conference, President Riaz Khan Fatyana informed that Pakistan Modern Pentathlon Federation has included two new disciplines - fencing and horse jumping in its format and from now there will be five disciplines running, shooting, swimming, fencing and horse jumping in the pentathlon events.
“We believe that there should be true sports culture in the country and it is sports culture which plays key role in forming healthy nation,” he added.
Fatyana further said that Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has awarded affiliation to our body in January this year which is definitely a major development for our body. “The game of pentathlon is equally popular among boys and girls”.
Fatyana expressed his hope that Pakistan pentathlon team will feature in 2024 Olympic Games. “National pentathlon team has so far featured in two international events and offered quite satisfactory performance in both the events.
Our players grabbed five medals in the first international event while finished third in the 9-Nation Asian championship”.
