International Day of Sport for Peace marked
Islamabad : National Secretary of Pakistan Youth Hostel Association (PYHA) organized a ceremony to mark International Day of Sport for Development & Peace at the Islamabad chapter of the youth hostel here, says a press release.
Former ambassador Qazi Humayun while addressing the ceremony was of the view that sports or physical activities worked wonders not only for individuals but also for nations and states. A healthy mind is an asset and always thinks positively and becomes a productive member of society, he said.
A number of sporting events including 50-metre race, badminton were also held on the occasion in which participated students of various schools, colleges and universities.
Pakistan Youth Hostel being an association of the youth particularly takes care of this particular element to provide youth opportunities to get awareness about their fitness, said Ambassador. “Off and on we have been organizing such events in which motivational speakers highlight value of physical fitness, tourism and adventurism,” said the national secretary of the youth hostel.
Deputy Director of Sports, Quaid-i-Azam University, Safdar Ali also emphasized the need for regular sports, particularly the youth.
He mentioned the young badminton star, Sumayya Qadir who was present in the audience and told she had come all the way from Quetta to Islamabad to get education and above all to play badminton. Today, she is the star player of the game and is all set to make more achievements in this particular game, said Safdar Ali.
ICB’s sports director Chaudhry Shaukat, a number of physical teachers and young players also attended the event. Later, Ambassador Humayun distributed cash prizes and certificates among the winners.
